Numerical Study on the Plastic Forming of Doubly Curved Surfaces of Aluminum Foam Sandwich Panel Using 3D Voronoi Model

This paper presents a numerical investigation on the plastic forming of doubly curved surfaces aluminum foam sandwich panel (AFSP). A mesoscopic 3D Voronoi model that can describe structure closed-cell relatively realistically was established, and series simulations using with core were conducted two typical including spherical saddle-shaped AFSPs to analyze deformation behaviors defects in detail. Multi-point experiments different target radii implemented panels good quality obtained. The simulated results surface illumination maps, face sheet profiles, maximum strain differences selected areas experimental indicated AFSP reflect actual occurred panels, high accuracy also demonstrated terms shape error thickness variation.
